C Camp Information

General Information

It's time to make summer plans; one activity you won't want to miss is the Mid Cal C Camp, June 18 -- 22 at Eventful Acres. This camp is designed for the C & above rated rider who will enjoy spending five days of riding on a beautiful and challenging cross country course, learning new skills and hanging with friends at a nearby lake. C Camp is one of the most popular camps Mid Cal has to offer with two fabulous clinicians, great food, fun evening activities and the opportunity to spend five days with your horse.

I reviewed past C camp expenses and have projected costs for 2008. C Camp is provided as a fun learning opportunity for the campers, it is not a fundraiser. I have set the price at $600.00 per camper. If we have more than 25 campers, the price per camper will come down a little bit and that money will be refunded. If we have 30 campers the refund will be greater.

Please keep in mind this camp fills quickly on a first come first serve basis. Below you'll find additional details to help you prepare for this year's camp.

Instruction

We are please to have Valerie Owen & Jackie McRae returning to teach. Both Val and Jackie are USEA ICP Level II clinicians.

Food and Accommodations for People

Housing will be in tents (bring a tent, sleeping bag, pad and pillow), bathroom and shower facilities are available on site for our use (bring towels, soap, etc). RVs may be rented from Eventful Acres; an RV price list is included in the attachments. Carol Von Brandt will be back as our cook to continue her wonderful tradition of excellent meals. Vegetarian choices will be available at every meal, but if you need or want something special, please bring it with you.

Accommodations for Horses

Horses will be in ~12 x 12 pipe paddocks. Please keep in mind you may NEVER tie your horse to the pipe paddocks. Wheelbarrows will be provided. We suggest you bring your own mucking bucket and equipment. Three bales of shavings and one bale of hay (your choice of grass, alfalfa, or half & half) will be provided. Extra shavings will be available for purchase at Eventful Acres from me for $7.00.

Tack and Supplies

Before leaving for Camp, check your tack! If something breaks at camp you will not be able to get it repaired. Bring spare equipment if you have it. Bring extra saddle pads, as your horse will be working hard and its pad will get wet. You'll also want to bring wrapping supplies for standing wraps, including any poultice or cooling gel that you use. Your horse will be working hard each day and will most likely need to be wrapped. A storage container of some type to hold your supplies outside of your paddock will come in handy. Tack can be kept in your trailer tack rooms, however grooming kits, wraps, pads, etc. can be stored in front of your paddock for easy access. Tying to trailers is not permitted.

Riding Schedules

Please plan to arrive Wednesday afternoon on June 18 in time to ride at either 2:30 or 4:00 PM. Riding groups for the remainder of camp will be posted after the instructors have worked with you. Please make sure you adequately condition your horse before coming to camp. They will be worked for five straight days and will need to be in very good shape. It would be very unfortunate to be dismissed from your riding group due to an unfit horse. Keep this in mind in the weeks before C Camp. In addition to riding each day, bandaging lessons will be taught by upper level PC members. After riding lessons are over, visiting the local lake is a favorite pass-time activity. Bring your bathing suit, sunscreen and beach towel. Please see the Mid Cal Driving Permission Form.

Farrier

We recommend your horse be shod just prior to coming to camp to prevent shoe problems and, costly shoe replacement. Occasionally someone will lose a shoe and will need farrier attention. A farrier may be called if necessary. If your horse is prone to losing shoes, or hasn't been recently shod, you may want to bring extra cash (~$50) to cover farrier expenses. If you have spare shoes, you may want to bring them as well, lost shoes are more difficult to replace.

Trailering

You are responsible for trailering your horse to camp.

Chaperones

One chaperone is required for every four C Camp participants. Each chaperone is charged a fee of $200.00 to cover meals and camping. Chaperones are expected to help with chores, supervise activities, provide transportation to the lake and assist with any discipline problems. Anyone with medical or first aid training is especially encouraged to chaperone. Clubs may want to divide the chaperone fee among the campers from their club. If you don't have a chaperone, please let me know, and I will assign one to you for an additional $50. Thank you chaperones, your participation makes this camp possible for the riders. We could not host the camp without you.

Rules

Once campers arrive at Eventful Acres please remember that Pony Club rules and chaperone guidelines will apply. No one may leave the grounds without a chaperone. Thank you for your cooperation.

Required Forms

Please complete the attached forms and return them to your club's C Camp coordinator as soon as possible. Again, camp will fill on a first come first serve basis. Due to fixed costs, we will not be able to refund your camp fees once you commit to coming to C Camp, unless another camper fills your space.
